A number of snook from 23 to 40 inches have been taken on the beach at Honeymoon Island, as well as in the surf at Anclote Key. Live shrimp, sardines and topwater plugs fished early in the mornings have been working well.

Fisherman's World, 727-942-8944: Trout fishing in 6 to 10 feet of water east of the Intracoastal Waterway inside Three Rooker Bar has been good. Fish to 22 inches have been taking shrimp and Gulp Strips on jig heads. The southeast end of Honeymoon Island, off Dunedin, has been giving up pompano to 13 inches. Most have been taken on Doc's Goofy Jigs tipped with shrimp.

One Stop Bait and Tackle, 727-842-5610: A number of reds have been caught at Dutchman's Key, on the east side of Anclote Key. Fish have been taking jigs, shrimp and cut mullet. The outfall canal at the Anclote power plant has produced a few permit to 6 pounds. Fish have been taking yellow and white Doc's Goofy Jigs tipped with frozen shrimp.

Clearwater Bait and Tackle, 727-669-5455: Anglers have been avoiding the heat and storms for the most, though a few have been getting in an hour or two of fishing here and there. The southeastern end of Honeymoon Islands has been producing a few snook on live pinfish early the mornings. Don from the shop caught and released a fish of 36 inches there.

Denny B's Bait and Tackle, 813-885-9811: An angler hooked six cobia in Mobbly Bay, near the old Higgins power plant site, at Oldsmar. Fish ranged up to 35 inches and all took live shrimp. Bob from the shop was fishing with buddies at the north end of Anclote Key, where they landed a 7-foot bull shark. They also landed some blacktip sharks to 36 inches. All took cut mullet and jacks.

Dunedin Bait and Tackle, 727-736-3474: Things have been slow at the shop, as anglers dodge the heat and rain. A few have been fishing the northwestern end of Honeymoon Island, where they have been landing some snook to 33 inches. They also have been scoring some trout 18 to 20 inches there. Live shrimp and root-beer Gulp Strips on jigs have been working. An angler parked under the east bridge on the Dunedin Causeway to avoid the rain, landed a 24-inch red while he was waiting for the storm to pass. He used a root-beer Gulp Strip on a jig.

Pier 60, 727-462-6466: Snook from undersized to 40 inches are being hooked. Live shrimp, sardines and ladyfish are good baits. A number of mackerel are being taken, with fish to 18 inches falling for Gotcha Plugs and spoons. Some anglers have been getting their fish before 8 a.m. to beat the heat of the day. Mangrove snapper fishing at night has been good. Fish to 12 inches are taking live shrimp well. Tarpon remain around the pier, though few anglers are fishing for them.
