Pinellas County will make improvements and repairs to the bridges along the causeway in Fred Howard Park and plans to close the beach to the public. This beach is one of the most spectacular in the area. I should know as I was born in Clearwater 60 years ago. It is a haven for many people and the closing of it will not have a positive effect on Tarpon Springs. I'm sure the park, causeway and beach are incentives to many tourists for vacations and we all know we certainly need tourists for our economy.
I may have come up with a way to keep the beach open during the repairs to the bridge are being made. Why not hire a ferry boat to take people from the park to the beach? It wouldn't interfere with the causeway area where the bridge repairs would take place. Beach-goers could even be charged a small fee for the trip, which would help offset the cost of the ferry.
Let's not give up and close a beautiful area of our community for over a year if there is another option.
