PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- Award-winning singer Steven Curtis Chapman will bring not only his Christian music but also his passion to encourage families to adopt needy children to New Port Richey next week.

His 50-city tour, "Live in This Moment," is being presented in conjunction with the release of Chapman's new album "This Moment," his 16th release on Sparrow Records.

Chapman is asking audience members to contribute spare change that will be given to an area family that is adopting a child.

Chapman and wife Mary Beth, who have three adopted children from China, have created Project Hope, a program to help reduce the financial barriers of adopting.

The music he will sing, Chapman said, "is the deepest expression of my relationship with God. I want people to feel invited in, rather than preached at."

His music also appeals to non-Christian audiences. "Miracle of the Moment" from his latest album celebrates the joy inherent in life. "Cinderella" is a tender ballad of a father who describes the times he has danced with his daughter, beginning with helping her practice for her first school dance and ending with rehearsing with her for her wedding dance.

"Cinderella" was the top Christian Music download on iTunes for several weeks.

Chapman brings a long list of honors to his performance. He is a five-time Grammy Award recipient and has sold more than 10 million records, including two platinum and seven gold albums.

He has also won 51 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards and has appeared in numerous television shows, including "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno and "CBS News Sunday Morning."

The performance will be a family affair with sons Will Franklin on the drums and Caleb the guitar.

He hopes concert attendees will be moved, Chapman said.

"When people come to my concerts, I want them to feel they have found a friend. I want my music to connect."

The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at Calvary Chapel Worship Center, 6825 Trouble Creek Road, New Port Richey.

Tickets are $30 or $25 in advance, $32 day of show, $21 for groups. Call 866-440-7880 or go to the Joy-FM Web page for tickets.
