DADE CITY - County utility bills could take a bigger bite out of wallets of Pasco residents starting as soon as next month.
A typical customer of Pasco County Utilities Services could pay an extra $4.88 a month if proposed water and sewer rates go into effect in October, at the start of the county's 2008 fiscal year.
The average Pasco Utilities bill would go up from about $61.85 now to $66.73, county commissioners were told by consultants today. The numbers are based on customers using about 8,000 gallons of water per month.
Commissioners plan a Sept. 25 public hearing before making a final decision on the possible rate increase.
If the rate plan is approved, county customers could expect to see yearly increases through 2011. The typical bill by then could go up to $74.19, an increase of $12.84 per month.
Even with the higher utility bills, the county would still rank fourth among five counties in the area on how much it charges water and sewer customers.
