Hart's One Stop, 727-938-5364: Good numbers of reds are being reported by anglers fishing the flats along the shore north and south of Howard Park, off Tarpon Springs. Fish have been running from undersized about 27 inches. Live shrimp have been good, along with plastic jerk baits. Some were taken on cut bait. Oyster bars and mangroves have been holding fish. A few keeper grouper were reported, with fish to 25 inches taken in 18 to 23 feet of water off Anclote Key. Seabass have been biting well in the same depths, with some fish as large as 14 inches. Trout fishing has been good around the Anclote Gulf Park pier, adjacent to the Progress Energy power plant. Fish have been taking jigs, sardines and shrimp – the larger specimens up to 22 inches. The flats just north of Key Vista Park also are producing keeper fish. A boat fishing 45 feet of water off Anclote Key caught a good a mix of a couple of keeper grouper and some mangrove snapper up to 20 inches. Dead baits and squid did the job. A boat fishing 15 to 30 feet west of the island reported 15 keeper grouper in four hours. Fish ran 25 to 32 inches.
Denny B's Bait and Tackle, 813-885-9811: Anglers working the bars off the old Higgins power plant, at Oldsmar, have been taking trout to 17 inches. The early morning bite has been best, and topwater plugs have been working well.
Dunedin Bait and Tackle, 727-736-3474: The western side of the Dunedin Causeway drawbridge has been holding mackerel in good numbers. Anglers have been scoring on fish to 20 inches using silver spoons and live sardines under a float or free-lined. The east end of the bridge produced a few slot reds.
Pier 60, 727-462-6466: The tarpon continue to roll around the pier, with fish to 70 pounds being seen. A few have been hooked and battled briefly. Limits of mackerel have been the norm, with fish running 14 to 20 inches or better. Several snook have been caught, most too short to keep. The night trout bite remains strong, with lots of fish 12 to 17 inches taking shrimp. A few reds are being caught, from undersized to oversized.
Redington Long Pier, 727-391-9398: The mackerel have been a good bet, with lots of fish to 20 inches caught. A few kings are being hooked off the end of the pier. Anglers are setting up outriggers and live threadfins. One angler landed three fish better than 25 pounds. Trout fishing has been on, but most have been undersized.
