Dixie Lee and Bait and Tackle, 352-596-5151: The trout bite has been solid in 10 to 12 feet of water over grass bottom. Fishing west of the Weeki Wachee River, anglers are picking up lots of fish 15 to 17 inches, with some to more than 20 inches. Shrimp and Gulp shrimp and shad tails on jig heads are working well. A good number of reds have been taken just outside the river, with fish around bars and mangroves. Fish 25 inches to oversized have been reported. Gold spoons and jigs have been working well.
Dunedin Bait and Tackle, 727-736-3474: Lots of trout were being taken in the mornings north of the Dunedin Causeway. Fish have been 16 to 17 inches and taking live shrimp and Gulp shrimp in the new penny color. The western end of the causeway drawbridge has been producing some reds to 25 inches, along with a good number of short fish. Mackerel have been running 15 to 20 inches on the beach of Honeymoon and Caladesi islands. Some bluefish have been caught in both places, as well. Some keeper reds were taken around the ferry dock at Caladesi.
Masters' Bait and Tackle, 727-945-7191: John and a fishin buddy working the shore off the south side of Howard Park, in Tarpon Springs, reported several reds to 22 inches. They used Gulp baits on jig heads.
Fisherman's World, 727-942-8944: There have been a lot of short to oversized reds taken along the mangroves south of Howard Park. Fish have been taking live sardines, Gulp shrimp and strips on jigs. A few kings 30 to 35 pounds were caught in 60 feet of water west of Anclote Key. Fish were taking trolled Squid Spoons. The mackerel bite has been on off the beach at Honeymoon and Caladesi islands. Fish have been running 15 to 20 inches and taking spoons and live sardines well. Some schooling bluefish have been mixed with the macks, at times. A few snook were taken around the deep cut at the north end of Anclote Key. Fish were running oversized, but a few around 30 inches were reported. Topwater plugs and live sardines around first light have been working best.
Pier 60, 727-462-6466: The snook have been taking live baits early in the day, but most have been undersized. The trout bite is good, with plenty of fish 13 to 20 inches taking live shrimp under popping corks. A few tarpon are rolling around the pier. Fish have been 30 to 40 pounds. One was hooked and brought to the base of the pier before being released, while several others broke off.
Redington Long Pier, 727-391-9398: Fishing has been solid since the pier reopened. A few kings have been caught, including a couple more than 40 inches. Mackerel have been around in big numbers and fish to 25 inches are being caught. A few slot reds and some oversized fish to 35 inches are being taken and snook fishing has been OK, though fish are running small. The night trout bite has been good, with a fair number of keeper fish reported.
Salonika's Bait and Tackle, 727-849-6377: The flats north of the mouth of the Cotee River have been giving up trout to 18 inches. Fish have been taking shrimp well, but jigs are accounting for some. The reds have been running 18 to 22 inches along the shoreline in the same area. Focus on the bars and mangroves. The snook have been biting late in the day and at night around the Main Street bridge on the Cotee River. Fish have been breaking off, for the most part. Mackerel fishing has been good at times west of the Cotee River channel. Fish are taking live sardines and shrimp, along with Gotcha Plugs and spoons. Most have been 15 to 20 inches.
