A judge has held the language in the "super" homestead exemption state constitution amendment that was supposed to be voted on Jan. 29 confusing and tossed it off the ballot. Gov. Charlie Crist is now backing a late-game alternative: doubling the current – nonsuper – homestead exemption, to $50,000 from $25,000. Crist also wants the "Save Our Homes" property value cap transferable. According to estimates, doubling won't provide as much tax relief as the super exemption, but we guess something is better than nothing when it comes time to write out the tax check.
