HOLIDAY, Fla. - HOLIDAY, Fla. - Many Tiki Village mobile home park residents no longer will be left twisting in the wind.
Their homes will be the first to get hurricane proofing when state funding for the program is restored, according to Greg Giordano, chief legislative aide for state Sen. Mike Fasano, R-New Port Richey.
Money ran out in June, leaving 114 out of 170 Tiki Village units without the upgrades to help them resist hurricane winds, as first reported at the time in The Suncoast News.
The $15 million to resume the program is contained in the budget scheduled for a vote Friday by state lawmakers during a special session, Giordano said today.
The revised state budget then will go to Gov. Charlie Crist for his consideration, Giordano said.
Crist, however, does have line-item veto over budget items and could remove the hurricane-proofing money from the state spending plan.
