Snapper Taken in Anclote River

Hart's One Stop, 727-938-5364: The mangrove snapper bite has been good around dock and rocky bottom in the Anclote River. Fish 10 to 15 inches have been common. Live shrimp has been best, but cut squid also is working. Crystal Beach to Howard Park has been a good trout area. Fish have been along the deeper grass drops, taking shrimp and jigs well. Fishing close to the mangroves along the shoreline in this area has been good for reds.

Masters' Bait and Tackle, 727-945-7191: The west side of Honeymoon Island, off Dunedin, has been holding good numbers of mackerel, with fish mostly in the 17- to 18-inch class. There have been a few as large as 28 inches landed. Gotcha Plugs and silver spoons have been working well. A good number of reds have been caught in the shallows between Howard Park and Crystal Beach. Fish have been on the bars and close to the mangroves. Sizes ranged from undersized to 27 inches, with a couple of fish to 38 inches reported. A couple of snook were taken in the same area. Anglers also took some large keeper and oversized reds north of Howard Park, in Tarpon Springs. One fish of 40 inches was reported.

One Stop Bait and Tackle, 727-842-5610: A pair of cobia to 28 inches was taken around the stilt houses south of the Pithlachascotee River. A few other fish were reportedly hooked and lost. The sand bar north of Anclote Key has been holding some snook, though most have been undersized.

Denny B's Bait and Tackle, 813-885-9811: Anglers have been finding keeper trout on the flats off Crystal Beach and east of Three Rooker Bar. Fish have been running to about 20 inches and there have been some mackerel in the same area.

Dunedin Bait and Tackle, 727-736-3474: Good numbers of reds have been caught by anglers fishing the jetty on the south end of Honeymoon Island. Fish have been taking Berkley Gulp Strips on jig heads. The drawbridge on the Dunedin Causeway has been giving up some snook to 30 inches, with the better bite at night. Live jumbo shrimp and pinfish have been good baits. A few flounder were caught at the bridge, including some big fish. Shrimp bounced on the bottom around sandy holes has been the ticket, taking fish to 22 inches.

Pier 60, 727-462-6466: Mackerel have been biting well in the mornings, with plenty of fish to 15 inches and some to 24 inches. Gotcha Plugs and Clark's silver spoons have been good choices. Trout fishing is fair, with a few keepers to 16 inches mixed in with the undersized fish. Some nice reds have been caught, with fish ranging from 18 to 38 inches.

Redington Long Pier, 727-391-9398: The mackerel bite is good, with fish running to 20 inches. Some big bluefish have been moving in, and fish to 7 pounds have been reported. Snook are around the pilings and fish 24 to 40 inches have been hooked. Sheepshead fishing is good, with plenty of fish to 15 inches being landed.

Salonika's Bait and Tackle, 727-849-6377: The flats north and south of the Cotee River have been producing trout to 16 inches, with live shrimp the best bait. The reds have been running 17 to 22 inches at Brasher Park. Fish have been on the bars and around mangroves with the moving tides.
