HUDSON, Fla. - HUDSON, Fla. - Readers and writers alike can learn the art of authoring from more than 20 published authors from across the Tampa Bay area at the Local Author's Fair.
The "It's a Mystery at Your Library" series kicks off with the Dec. 8 fair at the Hudson Regional Library, 8012 Library Road in Hudson.
Starting at 1 p.m., author Cal Branche of Hudson will present a program on Florida mystery writers, along with featured children's author Diane Carr and illustrator Edward Gazsi, who will present "Journey Into Illustrating" and "Adventures in Getting Published" at 1:45 p.m.
Diane Carr, a resident of Merritt Island, on the Space Coast, will discuss her first book, "River Dragon, A Real Florida Fairy Tale," 1 - 1:45 p.m.
Following the discussion, children can make a paper dragon craft to take home, says Elizabeth Warrick, youth services librarian.
Carr is the assistant editor of the magazine Natural Awakenings and was co-author and co-editor of three children's chapter books in a series created by the Space Coast Writers' Guild that was published in Florida Today.
She says her passion for writing started in the '80s with short stories that she would write for her children.
In 2001, she became serious about her writing and has a sequel nearly completed, other chapter books, short stories, and a screen play waiting to be published, she adds.
Edward Gazsi has been a freelance illustrator since 1971 in the fields of medical, children's and book cover art.
He resides in Bayonet Point with his family, where he has completed his sixth fully illustrated children's book under many large publishing houses, including Harpers Collins.
Since 1997, Gazsi has been an instructor at the International Academy of Design, in Tampa, where he teaches courses including drawing, human anatomy and illustration techniques in its animation department.
In addition, he has received many awards with his latest, coming during the 2007 Miniature Art Society of Florida art show. He placed second in the Human Figure Painting category.
Gazsi is also a well-known public speaker.
"It's important for children and adults to see the faces behind the books they read," says Warrick. "Anything that encourages reading in the community is a positive thing," she adds of the first-ever fair.
Avid readers and book worms can meet and greet their favorite children's and adult authors in many different genres including fantasy, folk tale and historical fiction, after the presentations.
In addition, there will be a book sale and autograph signing by many authors, including Tampa Tribune correspondent Megan Hussey.
Light refreshments will also be served.
