NEW PORT RICHEY FL - NEW PORT RICHEY FL - County Attorney Robert Sumner will stay on board for an extra few weeks in January until his successor, Jeffrey Steinsnyder, arrives.
Sumner, 72, had planned to retire Dec. 31 after about eight years as the county's top lawyer since 1999.
Steinsnyder, however, needs time to wrap up cases in his Manatee County private practice and visit his elderly parents, Commission Chairman Ted Schrader said today.
Steinsnyder is now scheduled to start Jan. 21, commissioners determined today.
Sumner agreed to remain in the post until Jan. 18.
Schrader intends to meet with Steinsnyder by next week in hopes of finalizing salary and other contract terms.
Sumner earns about $164,400.
