Gag Grouper Taken Off Anclote Key

Hart's One Stop, 727-938-5364: Fishing 20 to 25 feet of water west of Anclote Key turned up 13 keeper gag grouper to 26 inches. The four anglers also took a couple of kings to 22 pounds fishing a live pinfish on a flat line behind the boat. The gags were taken on dead bait, live pinfish and trolled Stretch 30 plugs and Rappala X Rats. Key Vista Park, in the Holiday area, has been producing some reds. A pair of anglers reported taking six fish 22 to 26 inches fishing shrimp and cut mullet. Trout have been taken at the Anclote power plant outfall canal, around the pier. Fish have been in the slot and a couple of fish 22 to 25 inches were reported. Shrimp has been best. A few pompano have been taken there by anglers fishing Doc's Goofy Jigs in yellow and white with pink teasers. Tipping with shrimp improves the odds.

Dunedin Bait and Tackle, 727-736-3474: A husband and wife fishing the western end of the west bridge on the Dunedin Causeway reported taking a snook each, with both fish about 32 inches. A bit later they landed a large pompano on a banana jig tipped with shrimp. An angler wading on the flats around the draw bridge caught a couple of flounder to 18 inches fishing a jig head with shrimp. mackerel were taken around the causeway, with fish to 24 inches taking shrimp, spoons and Gotcha Plugs. The deeper holes along the causeway have been holding trout, including some real gators up to 28 inches. Shrimp and Berkley Gulp baits in new penny color have been best. The Clearwater artificial reef has been giving up good number of mackerel, and some kings to 30 pounds. A few reds to 27 inches have been taken around Dutchman Key, at Anclote Key. Fish took live shrimp and Berkley Gulp strips on jig heads. The Dunedin artificial reef west of Hurricane Pass has been holding some kings to 30 pounds. Mackerel have been a good bet there, as well.

Pier 60, 727-462-6466: The mackerel have been numerous and running 18 to 20 inches. Live shrimp, greenbacks and spoons have been producing. The bite is off and on throughout the day. A few flounder 12 to 15 inches have been landed on shrimp fished on jig heads and bounced on the sandy bottom. Pompano have been taken on Doc's Goofy Jigs tipped with shrimp and the night bite has been good on snook, with lots of undersized fish and a few to 30 inches.
