TRINITY, Fla. - TRINITY, Fla. - Students at J.W. Mitchell High School in Trinity appear to understand that old piece of advice about making lemonade when being handed a lemon.
Only in their case, they were handed a garbage can.
What to do with it?
Make a mouse hole, of course.
That mouse hole will be part of the drama department's production of "Alice in Wonderland."
The play will begin a three-day run tomorrow, Nov. 15.
It appears objects such as that garbage can that becomes a mouse hole fit in nicely with the play's light tone.
"We've been doing a lot of heavy drama," said director and drama teacher Chris Fickley. "We wanted to give them something nice and fun."
Sets are minimal, he said, but will include a tree and mushroom made by students in the high school's art department.
Instead, the production will emphasize costuming, Fickley noted.
The play has been adapted for the theater from the classic work of Lewis Carroll by Eva Le Gallienne and Florida Friebus.
His student actors have enjoyed participating in Carroll's rich fantasy world, and he suspects audiences will, too, Fickley noted.
"People have always wanted to escape."
The play will be at River Ridge Performing Arts Center, 11646 Town Center Road, New Port Richey.
Performances on Nov. 15, 16 and 17 are at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 18, 2 p.m.
Tickets are $6 and are available at the door.
