TRINITY - TRINITY - Alonso High School entered J.W. Mitchell Stadium Tuesday night and kept the Mustang's boy's soccer team on their heels for most of the game, en route to a 1-0 Class 6A, District 7 victory.

Led by the fancy footwork of Alonso's forwards and midfielders, Mitchell spent much of the first half on the defensive in their own zone.

"We came out a little flat and it took us about 20 minutes to really get into the game," Mitchell head coach Oscar Ubillus said afterwards. "After the first water break is when we started picking it up.

They got one and then we created some chances, but nothing really clear that we could put away."

That single goal was scored halfway through the first by Alonso's Julio Perez. Nimbly working his way in between two Mitchell defensemen, Perez booted a low line drive kick from the left side into the far corner of the net past a diving Robbie Wallace.

Mitchell came out in the second half applying more pressure and, at times, took control of the game's tempo.

Senior midfielder Ali Fawaz had perhaps the best second half opportunity to tie the match up with a push down the left side late in the game, but could not convert.

Alonso finished with 15 shots on goal compared to Mitchell's 10.

Wallace, the Mitchell keeper, performed well to keep the difference at a single goal. On the night of his sixteenth birthday, the sophomore came up with three big late game saves while Alonso was applying heavy pressure down field.

"I'm not surprised," Coach Ubillus said of his net minder's showing. "He's a great, talented keeper."

The loss dropped Mitchell to 2-1-0 overall and 0-1 in district play.

Their next appearance on the pitch will be at home on Friday night as they play host to River Ridge High.
