Published: November 10, 2007

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - Trees of Life will light up Pasco County later this month with memorials to loved ones.

The annual holiday-season event is the biggest fundraiser of the year for Hernando-Pasco Hospice, according to Jane Freeman, community relations coordinator for the end-of-life-care agency.

The Trees of Life drive begins Friday, Nov. 23, and runs through December.

The 13-year tradition allows individuals to place or have an ornament hung on one of the trees with a tag bearing the name of the person in whose name it is given.

The 2007 ornaments consist of a red velvet bow for a contribution of less than $25. A vintage glass candle is available for a $25 donation. A sparkling, silver bow comes with a $30 donation.

A brilliant, gold bow is part of the $50 level. A glittering snowflake is available at the $100 level. A red velvet poinsettia can be chosen by $250 contributors.

For a $500 donation, a porcelain angel will grace the tree. A shining star comes with a donation of $1,000 or more.

To guarantee that an ornament is placed on the tree of the donor's choice, individuals are encouraged to make their contribution on or by Friday, Dec. 14. Contributions can still be made, however, after that date.

Tree locations include:

Two trees at Gulf View Square's center court, 9409 U.S. 19, Port Richey.

West Pasco Chamber of Commerce, 5443 Main St., New Port Richey.

Two trees at the HPH Marliere Hospice Care Center, 6801 Rowan Road, New Port Richey.

The trees at Gulf View Square will be ready to be decorated Nov. 23, and the others will be up on Wednesday, Nov. 28.

One can make a Tree of Life donation by calling the Hospice, toll free, at 1-800-486-8784 or, log onto the agency's Web site at www.hphospice.org and download a Tree of Life donation form.

Cash, personal checks and many credit cards are accepted at all three locations.

The Tree of Life is HPH's largest and primary fundraiser. Donations support the nonprofit agency's mission of providing care, comfort, and support to individuals and families affected by a terminal illness regardless of their ability to pay.
