Salvation Army Offering Christmas Food Assistance

PORT RICHEY, Fla. - PORT RICHEY, Fla. - Needy families can apply until Nov. 21 for holiday help through the Salvation Army West Pasco's annual Christmas Assistance Program.

The Salvation Army Center of Hope will provide a box of food to individuals or families having a hard time making ends meet, according to Jeanne Coulter, the center's manager.

The charitable organization gives toys along with the food to families with children 12 and younger.

Applications are being accepted at the Center of Hope, 8040 Washington St., weekdays, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Applicants need to show a valid driver's license or state-issued photo identification card.

Social Security cards for all members should be shown, along with birth certificates if a child's last name is different from that of the parent or guardian.

Proof of income is needed through a current pay stub, a HUD Housing Section 8 contract or lease, proof of food stamps and government assistance such as Social Security income.

The Salvation Army will also accept a metered utility bill as proof of Pasco County residency.
