NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - The first Freedom March of Holiday Lake Estates will be among many events during the Veterans Day weekend.
The march is planned for this Saturday, Nov. 10. Participants should gather at the Paul R. Smith Middle School, on Sweetbriar Drive, by 9:30 a.m.
The event not only will support U.S. troops, but also take a stand against street gangs, drugs and crime, according to organizers.
The march will conclude with "celebration ceremonies" at 11:30 a.m. for students, veterans and Holiday Lakes neighbors and friends.
The free event is open to people outside the Holiday Lakes Estates community.
Bands and hip-hop artists will perform. Games, a rock wall for climbing and safety stations are planned. Food and drinks will be available.
Freedom March organizers include Smith Middle School, Pasco Sheriff's Office, Holiday Lakes West Civic Association, Holiday Lake Estates Civic Association, Gulfside Elementary School and Calvary Chapel Worship Center.

Getting a jump on observances will be a Veterans Day Flag Ceremony tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 8, at Pasco-Hernando Community College West Campus. The public is invited.
The PHCC Veterans Club is the host of the event. It will be held at 4:30 p.m. by the flagpole outside of Building A at PHCC West, 10230 Ridge Road.
Speakers will include Jack Plant, a retired U.S. Army colonel and instructor in the PHCC drafting and design program.
The River Ridge High School Junior Air Force ROTC and the Ridgewood High School Junior Naval ROTC teams will perform.
Musical performances will include Ridgewood band member Paulo Claudio, the PHCC Chamber Singers, and PHCC student Darrin Seamster. A reception with refreshments at the Quista Café, 5 p.m., will conclude the event.

Elsewhere, area American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and other posts pull out all the stops for Veterans Day.
On Sunday, Nov. 11, the Father Felix Ullrich Assembly 1565 of the Knights of Columbus will conduct a memorial service and wreath placement to honor America's veterans.
The 11 a.m. ceremony will take place at the veterans memorial on the south side of Sims Park, in New Port Richey.
American Legion Paradise Post 79, in New Port Richey, is holding a Nov. 11 Veterans Day salute at the post home, at Legion Place and Veterans Way.
The lineup will include a performance by a NJROTC unit and drill team and an appearance by the Bag Pipes.
The early bird dinner starts at 2 p.m. Music will be provided from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Dinner tickets are available in the lounge at the post home.

In Holiday, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10167, 4619 Bartelt Road, will observe Veterans Day with an 11 a.m. ceremony. A dinner dance starts later at 4 p.m. for a $7 donation. Call 727-938-5977.
In Veterans Village, the VFW Chester McKay Post 7987 will have a brief ceremony at 11 a.m. at the post home, 7445 Chester McKay Drive. Hamburgers, hot dogs and side dishes will then be served. A donation of $3 is requested. Draft beer will cost 50 cents.

A Salute to Veterans Dinner Dance will take place 12:45 p.m. at Polish American Social Club of Pasco County, 7615 New Jersey Ave., Hudson. Tickets are $11 for members or $12 nonmembers. An honor guard will be present.
Organizers are asking former service members to register for recognition during the Salute to Veterans ceremony.

Veterans Day Pig Roast and Picnic will start at noon at AMVETS Post 16, 9638 S.R. 52, Hudson. Roger Danes, a Nashville recording artist, will perform.

Veterans' Day Dinner Dance is planned at Polish American Pulaski Association Clubhouse, 4616 Darlington Road, Holiday, 1:30 - 3 p.m. Music by Northern Sounds, 3 - 6 p.m. Tickets are $11 members, $13 guests.

Veteran's Day Ceremony and Party will take place at VFW Randolph Ford Post 7845, 6315 Stone Road, Port Richey. The ceremony is at 1 p.m. Food, entertainment, beer, fountain drinks will be 2-6 p.m. Donation $5.
