NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - In an effort to promote health and wellness for families and children, Pasco Kids First will hold the second annual Family Fun Day this Saturday.
The Nov. 10 event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sims Park, in downtown New Port Richey. It will offer a full slate of old-fashioned family-oriented activities and games, says Kelly Maki, a spokesperson for the event.
The Family Fitness Walk around Orange Lake, sponsored by the Pasco County Health Department, will take place throughout the day. There will also be a variety of activities "designed to get the family moving together," Maki explains.
When a child completes the first lap fitness walk, he or she will fill out a ticket and be registered to win one of two bikes that will be given away to a boy and girl at the end of the event.
While walking the half-mile sidewalk surrounding the lake, youngsters can get their hips moving with hula hoop game, sack race or interactive skiing game, says Maki.
DJ Rich of Rock and Roll Go will spin dance music to get the whole family grooving at the park.
Event-goers can participate in the Junior League's Children's Village and other activities. Children's Village participants are the Trinity Rotary Club, Childhood Development Services, the Early Learning Coalition of Pasco and Hernando counties, All Children's Hospital and Safe Kids Council of Pasco.
In addition, young people of all ages can enjoy "all-you-can-play" inflatable games for $3 per person.
"The idea is to promote a healthy family from the inside out," Rick Hess, executive director of Pasco Kids First, said of Family Fun Day. "By having all of these interactive activities for the entire family, we are promoting the family being active together."
Parents can learn about child safety from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office Missing and Abducted Child, or MAC, unit, New Port Richey Fire Department, Pasco Kids First and other organizations.
In the afternoon, the Sheriff's Office will hold a K-9 unit demonstration.
The Tampa Bay Lightning mascot, ThunderBug, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cheerleaders will also appear for a meet and greet during the event.
Pasco Kids First assists in the protection of Pasco County children from the devastating effects of child abuse, while partnering with other local agencies to provide services to children and their families.
Through community education and early intervention, Pasco Kids First promotes a healthy and nurturing family environment for all children.
