NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - A visual artist who works in paints, photographs and ceramic arts, Diane Hardy Waller, will showcase her photography as the featured artist for November at the Progress Energy Art Gallery.
A First Friday artist's reception will be held at the gallery, 6231 Grand Blvd., in downtown New Port Richey on Nov. 2, 6 - 9 p.m.
The "Landscapes Evoking Spirit" will be on display through Dec. 1.
Travel is a passion for Waller, who leaves the U.S. several times a year to visit other places. She feels the landscapes of each place are unique and spiritual and draws from those experiences.
This exhibit will feature photography from England, Germany, Austria and Indonesia, among others.
"There are places that are awesome because of the beauty of the locale and the people that make it happen such as Bali," Waller says of her inspiration.
"And the people of Myanmar (in Burma) are so steeped in their own spirituality that even the trees are praying. I find inspiration in the people and the places," she explains.
Waller is an established New York City-based artist with a solid background of showings. Most recently her work can be seen at the Canvas, Paper and Stone gallery in Harlem and the Wachovia Bank Sky Lounge in New York City.
The artist who grew up here, "brings a flavor of exotic places mixed with their individual spirituality to the forefront," says Karren Doll Tolliver, the Progress Energy Gallery's director.
"With some of the situations in the world as they are today, it will be revealing to see the places from her point of view," Tolliver adds.
Other artists exhibiting in this show are Ralph Annan, Michelle Collins, Gladys dePrias, Carol Gula, Littlefeather, Sherry Stamback, Paula Showen, Patrick Stickney and Tolliver.
Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, from noon to 8 p.m.
