Trio To Perform At Boulevard Lounge

During an introspective moment, Daryl Schooley declared, "Everyone in life is a prospect for something."

Schooley liked the thought so much he named his band Prospect when it was founded, in 1989.

Flash forward to late 2006. When Prospect was revived then after a hiatus in the early 2000s, the second incarnation carried the original name.

Prospect plays a variety of music, including classic rock and dance music.

Along with guitarist Schooley, other members of the new Prospect are drummer Bill Griffiths and Rick Conduzzi on bass.

Schooley has played with bands both in this area and his native Ohio. His father, Bob Vaughn, played guitar on the "Grand Ole Opry," the weekly radio country music program.

"Anything with strings, he could play," said Conduzzi of Vaughn.

Left-handed Schooley is known for playing a right-handed guitar.

Griffiths has played drums in this area as well as California, Oregon and Las Vegas. He was with the popular Suncoast group The Sevilles in the 1990s and now has rejoined Prospect.

Conduzzi is a veteran of bands here and in his home state of Wisconsin.

Prospect is marked by its concentration on detail, Conduzzi noted.

"We pay attention to the music," he said. "Some bands are more about a show than how they play their music."

With Prospect, there are no musical shortcuts such as backing tracks, Conduzzi said.

"We are very meticulous. We sometimes spend five or six hours going over three or four songs."

Prospect will appear from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 28-29, at Boulevard Lounge, 6214 Grand Blvd., New Port Richey.

The band has been playing there regularly since the beginning of the year.
