Hart's One Stop, 727-938-5364: The mouth of the Anclote power plant outfall has been a good spot for pompano, with fish to 13 inches taking Doc's Goofy Jigs tipped with shrimp. Pink teasers on the jigs have improved the bite. The pier at the canal has been giving up trout to 20 inches, with shrimp working best. A couple of cobia to 35 inches were taken at Pet Beach and a boat fishing 30 feet of water west of Anclote Key reported gags to 25 inches, taken on live pinfish and cut bait.
Clearwater Bait and Tackle, 727-669-5455: Anglers working the Pinellas end of the Courtney Campbell Causeway have been scoring good numbers of silver trout to 12 inches, along with whiting to 14 inches. Shrimp has been working best and some anglers have reported catches of 30 fish or more. The area east of the Bayside Bridge has been good for reds, with fish to 22 inches taking jigs, shrimp and Gulp Baits.
Fisherman's World, 727-942-8944: A boat working 20 to 40 feet of water west of Weeki Wachee took gags averaging 26 inches and a few fish to near 30 pounds. Large, live sardines did the job. A few small flounder were taken at the mouth of the Anclote River, with fish to 14 inches taking shrimp and jigs bounced on the bottom. Reds have been a good bet on the back side of Anclote Key, at Dutchman Key. Fish to 25 inches have been taking shrimp, and Gulp Baits in the new penny color.
Pier 60, 727-462-6466: A few kings are being caught, with fish to 15 pounds normal. The mackerel are biting well, with plenty measuring 13 to 19 inches. Spoon, shrimp and Gotcha Plugs are working well. A few snook are being hooked at night, and the sheepshead bite has been strong, with fish to 16 inches taking shrimp and fiddler crabs. Silver trout are running to 13 inches, and whiting to 12 inches. There are plenty of both being caught.
Redington Long Pier, 727-391-9398: The kingfish bite has slowed, but anglers fishing the end of the pier still are catching a few to 25 pounds on live bait. Mackerel remain strong, with good catches of fish 12 to 18 inches. A 200-pound bull shark was taken on a large piece of cut bait and lots of silver trout and whiting are being taken on shrimp.
Salonika's Bait and Tackle, 727-849-6377: A lot of reds, from shorts to 24 inches, have been caught at Brasher Park. Live shrimp and spoons fished around bars and mangroves are working best. Good numbers of trout are being taken on the grass bottom around the stilt houses north of the Cotee River. Fish to 20 inches have been taking shrimp and jibs. The mackerel have been west of the Cotee River channel in 10 to 15 feet of water. Fish have been around 18 inches, for the most. Silver spoons and live shrimp and whitebait are working.
Tarpon Tom's, 727-862-2908: The Pet Beach area has been a good whiting spot, with lots of fish to 13 inches being taken. Silver trout have been there, as well. Lots of reds were reported by anglers working the east end of the Dunedin Causeway, along the north tide. Fish to 23 inches have been taking shrimp and Berkley Gulp Strips on Cotee Jigs.
