Youth Dance Company Present 'The Nutcracker'

Members of Expressions, a nonprofit dance company of Pasco County children ages 9 and up, will perform The Nutcracker ballet at the Center for the Arts at River Ridge High School on Dec. 14 and 15.

A young girl, Clara receives a gift of a wooden nutcracker shaped like a toy soldier at the family Christmas party.
Broken by her jealous brother Fritz, the nutcracker is repaired by Great Uncle Drosselmeier.
After the guests depart, Clara creeps back downstairs to check on her beloved nutcracker and falls asleep with him in her arms.
Audiences will then be transported to a dream world of wonder and beauty during the Alexander Dumas adaptation of the classic Tchaikovsky ballet, says director Gillian Davis.
The annual holiday production of "The Nutcracker" will be performed by the nonprofit dance group, Expressions, at the Center for the Arts at River Ridge High School, 11646 Town Center Road in New Port Richey, Dec. 14 and 15.
Performances are 7 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively, with general admission tickets $18 each.
Children from 20 public, private, parochial and home schools will dance in the Land of the Sugar Plum Fairy in dazzling costumes with snowy holiday scenery, set to music by Tchaikovsky, Davis says.
The youth dance company is made up of girls and boys ages 9 and up, who live in Pasco, Pinellas, Hernando and Hillsborough counties.
Throughout the year, the group performs at various community functions, retirement centers, local theaters and schools.
The cast made up of 100 dancers includes professional guest artists Deborah Buttner, dancing the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Eriberto Jimerez dancing as the Cavalier.
Sharing the role of Clara are two middle school students, Elena Krischunas and Kristina League.
Both are students of Davis and have danced to her choreography for nine years. The young dancers have been friends since preschool and now Elena attends River Ridge Middle while Kristina goes to Genesis Preparatory School.
