Pasco high school students have a chance to dance, sing or act just like major performers under the Broadway lights in New York City.

The Richey Suncoast Theater is holding auditions for "Ticket to Broadway" to be held at 6 p.m. on Dec. 9 and 10 at the theater in the city's downtown district.

Auditions are open to high school students in and around Pasco County.

Musicians, singers, dancers, ensembles, comedians, jugglers, and tumblers are encouraged to audition.
Students should audition using the material they plan on using in the show.

This year, "Ticket to Broadway" has partnered with Wachovia Bank as the "Presented By" sponsor of the event.

"We are excited and honored to provide support for this outstanding program," said Larry Starnes, Wachovia's Area President for Pasco, Hernando and Citrus. "...These student performers are excellent representatives of the many talented young people in our Pasco County community," he added.

"Ticket to Broadway," which is entering its fifth year, is produced by the Richey Suncoast Theatre and The Pasco Education Foundation to promote and recognize the many talented high school students in our area, says Chip Wichmanowski, the foundation's executive director.

The high school musical also raises funds for the Richey Suncoast Performing Arts scholarships to assist students interested in seeking a college degree in all areas of the performing arts, including set and costume design, and technical production.

The Pasco Education Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Pasco County School District.

High school students interested in the technical aspects of producing shows are also encouraged to get involved in the annual event.

"We want to get kids involved in all aspects of theater," says Wichmanowski. "If they have the desire and the goal to perform, we want to help get them there," he said of high school seniors.

Last year's event raised more than $5,000 in scholarships.

"We got a feeling this will be the biggest year yet," Wichmanowski says of the variety show. "The program has grown in popularity and has become highly competitive," he notes.

Corporate sponsorships are available for $300 and include company name and/or logo in the playbill and 10 choice seat tickets to any of the three shows.

Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. on Feb 1 and 2 with a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Feb. 3.
General admission tickets for the event are $10.
