NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - Chestnuts will be roasting on an open fire, and the aroma of hot mulled cider and scones will be prevalent during the inaugural "Christmas Tour of Homes," presented by Growing Great Moms.
Guests will be ushered into the holiday season with a harpist, pianist, cellist, carolers and a hand bell choir performing at 11 uniquely decorated West Pasco homes, both inside and out, on Dec. 15, 3 - 9 p.m.
The tour will start at 3818 Sail Drive in New Port Richey with a Victorian Baroque-style home showcasing fine Christmas accessories and décor.
"It will be aesthetically pleasing to the eyes and palate," says Carmen Burnett, president of Growing Great Moms, of the holiday home tour.
A map and brochure will be provided as a guide for those taking the tour. The brochure will have information on home renovations and interior design and the owners of each home on the tour.
Many of the dwellings are traditional French provincial, rustic country and shabby chic styles, among others.
Burnett, 31, says guests can get interior design ideas and style tips while getting a glimpse of residents' personal taste.
"A home is a reflection of you and with this event you're getting to know a little about these people through their hospitality," she adds.
The tour houses are within an 8-mile radius encompassing neighborhoods in Gulf Harbors, River Crossing, the Gardens of Beacon Square and Oak Ridge, and the downtown district, says Burnett.
A live nativity scene will also be at a home on Wilshire Boulevard in Holiday.
Complimentary refreshments of mulled apple cider, coffee, lattes and chestnuts, along with catered goodies like pastries, desserts and cuisine from local restaurants, will sustain visitors on the tour.
Crafts, portraits, prints, handmade Christmas cards and gifts will be sold.
New Port Richey provided some funds for the holiday open house, a fundraiser for the Growing Great Moms and Trinity Relay for Life.
GGM is a support group for stay-at-home moms in Pasco and Pinellas counties. It meets several times a week for parental workshops, conversation, coffee and playtime for kids.
The group for mothers is guided by traditional Christian morals and values, often giving back to the community through charitable events and contributions.
"It could definitely be a New Port Richey tradition," Burnett says of the family affair. It will be "built on happy moments for the family," she adds.
