NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - The Pasco Sheriff's Office is launching its annual Holiday Food Basket drive.
Deputies, staff members and the public donate items that go into food baskets for needy families. Baskets include a frozen turkey and all the trimmings.
The purpose of the long-running program is to provide some Pasco families a complete holiday meal.
"This year our goal is to help 400 families across the county because the need continues to be so great," the sheriff wrote in a recent newsletter.
The baskets will be delivered to the families on Friday, Dec. 21, just in time for the holidays.
The public is invited to contribute canned goods and other nonperishable foods.
Items needed include canned vegetables, canned fruits, instant mashed potatoes and other nonperishable goods.
Donation boxes will be placed in the lobbies of main offices, including the New Port Richey office, 8700 Citizen Drive, within the West Pasco Government Center complex, on Little Road.
Donations of money are appreciated as well. Make checks out to Pasco Sheriff's Charities and note that it is for the Holiday Food Drive.
The deadline for donations is Friday, Dec. 14.
